Notebook LM to help you with Finnish
Have you ever wished you could listen to topics that genuinely interest you, in Finnish, easily and understandably?
Some time ago, I discovered an interesting tool that every language learner should know about. Itâs called NotebookLM, and itâs a free AI program developed by Google that makes learning incredibly convenient.
How does it work?
NotebookLM can turn any text, such as a blog post, article, news text, or notes, into a summary, study notes, or a dialogue in the language of your choice. Yeehaw!!
And yes, Finnish is one of the language options! đ„ł
The conversations sound authentic and natural, just like you were listening to two native Finnish speakers discussing a topic youâve personally chosen and find interesting.
I tested the tool myself and was pleasantly surprised: the AI doesnât just summarize the text, but creates a natural dialogue based on it even mentioning the original source.
What can you do with NotebookLM?
Note: You need to select the output language in the settings before uploading your material.
Upload an article, video, or any other material on a topic that interests you.
Listen to the resulting conversation, learn new vocabulary and expressions along the way!
Iâm also planning to use it for studying Japanese. Even if I donât understand everything thatâs being said, I still know the topic, so I can pick up useful phrases. It also helps to get a feel for the rhythm and intonation of the language.
This is truly an amazing study tool, especially if you want to review or deepen your understanding of a topic!
As Iâm writing this, itâs July 2025, and currently NotebookLM allows you to create three free conversations per day.
